Hi.
My name is Renee. I’m a Peace Corps Volunteer working in Environmental Education in Kanel, Senegal. I don’t know if I have a lot to offer people here as far as educating them environmentally is concerned. But I do like to write. This is a collection of random thoughts on my experiences here, in an attempt to prove to myself that I actually am using my useless major (Cultural Anthropology). I speak English (obviously), French, and Pulaar. I’m pretty sure that when all is said and done, the only future use I’ll have for the latter is entertaining people at parties. And I’m ok with that. I am assuming I have the brain space for other, practical things. Hopefully.
When I’m not sitting in animal feces while working in my garden or trying to make trees grow in the desert, I am busy drawing pictures which no one will ever see and dreaming about how I’ll one day learn Spanish.

No experience in life is wasted, and it is what you learn from it also. Cultural anthropology will serve as a useful tool in understanding others not exactly like you. Bon chance!!
Comment by your fans M & D March 9, 2010 @ 12:05 amAwesome blog Renee. Lots of heart and great cultural insight. Sorry about the loss of your Senegalese sister though. Would you help me with a country brief I’m preparing for USN men and women who will visit Senegal? It’s for non-profit, academic use only. I’ll be glad to email it to you (Powerpoint) if you send me an email. Thanks for serving us so well in Senegal! Kind Regards, Mark Easterlin, Pensacola, FL
